Information

Welcome to the ConVal Regional High School Library

Our primary mission is to meet the information and resource needs of our students, teachers, and support staff in a service-oriented environment. Our secondary mission is to ensure students achieve basic competency in information literacy skills to prepare them to be independent library users.

Hours - 7:00 am to 3:30 pm every school day (exceptions are posted in advance)

The ConVal High School Library houses approximately 20,000 volumes.   The Reference Collection includes several general encyclopedia sets and a wealth of subject resources, while the Circulating Collection includes non-fiction, biography, and fiction books.  There is a small collection of children's books. These collections are arranged according to the Dewey Decimal Classification system, with the exception of the fiction and biography collections.  Library patrons may access our resources via the school's Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC), which is available on computer workstations in the library.

The Periodical Collection includes several dozen current magazine titles and seven national, regional, and local newspaper subscriptions.  Back issues of magazine titles are maintained in paper format for three to five years.  Back issues of the two local newspapers are maintained in paper format for a year.  Electronic resources include EbscoHost, CQ Researcher, ABC-CLIO history databases, and Newsbank; usernames and passwords for these resources are available to staff and students at the library.  Direct access to these electronic resources is available via this website.

Our library’s audio-visual resources include laptop computers, multimedia projectors, TVs, DVD players, digital video cameras, and accessories, as well as a multimedia desktop computer for digital video editing and still photo editing.  Some audio-visual equipment is available for student use outside of the classroom, with the completion of a signed financial responsibility agreement.
Our library is located at the end of the main hallway of the school and serves as both a resource center and a library instruction classroom.  Seating for 80 is provided at tables, study carrels, computer workstations, and individual easy chairs.

General Library Policies

  • Our library is a place for quiet study or reading.  Students who intentionally disturb this environment will lose the privilege of visiting the library.
  • Passes are required for students who visit the library without their teachers.
  • Student ID’s or similar photo ID (such as a drivers license) are required to borrow any library materials.  Circulating books may be borrowed for up to three weeks and back issues of magazines for one week.
  • Borrowing privileges of students who fail to return library materials on time will be suspended.  Overdue notices are sent to the student’s first block teacher.  Grades or transcripts will not be sent out by the Guidance Office until lost books are returned or the lost book bill is paid.
  • To protect the library’s resources, food (including candy) and drink are not permitted in the library.  (Water bottles are permitted.)
  • To preserve a quiet environment and to ensure that students hear the occasional announcements of library staff, personal music devices (such as iPods) or other personal audio devices are not permitted.  Students also may not listen to music or broadcasts on laptop computers in the library.
  • To lessen the loss of library resources due to theft, students may not bring backpacks into the library.   Backpacks may be left outside the library’s security system, just inside the library main entrance.
  • Students using library computers must abide by the school’s acceptable use policy.  Email access and viewing of streaming video or audio files are not permitted during school hours, due to limited computer resources and limited bandwidth.
