CURRENT BUSINESS:
Cookbook Fundraiser Update PTO has sold a total of 70 cookbooks to date (of the 200 we ordered). We will continue to sell them ($12/copy) at events like Spring Fling.
Playground Bell Update Tod Smith continues to work on a new playground bell for the school.
Spring Fling Saturday, June 7 (10-2). Michelle reviewed the list of volunteers for the event. We plan to start setting up (bouncy house, dunk tank, signs, tables, etc.) at 8am on Saturday morning. Reviewed publicity efforts (Laura R will put yard signs in Meeting House lawn). Weather looks good for an outside event. Sue will send home a flyer to remind people to bring swimsuits and towels if they want to go in the dunk tank. Sue will take over the Silent Auction for Katherine. Sue will check the attic for additional items for the auction as well as prizes for contests. Michelle will make bags (or use aprons) to enable us to track tickets collected for each event. Volunteers should bring lawn chairs if they have them (so they can sit and collect tickets). Mr. I will do the dunk tank supervision, including managing the list of people who are waiting to go in next. Athanasia volunteered Forrest for setting up a sound system. Michelle will check attic for paint (for spin art). Sue will get all materials for Pie Eating Contest. Michelle will do same for Cheez Doodle contest. Laura R is in charge of free petting goat event. Discussed setting up hopscotch (Trish will draw) on the sidewalk and putting bouncy house over by vegetable garden. Trish will donate helium balloon tank and balloons.
Treasurer’s Report (see attached).
UPCOMING BUSINESS:
Yearbook Trish volunteered to scan ads for us since her machine can scan into Microsoft Word documents (Sue’s scanner puts it in Microsoft Publisher, which cannot be downloaded into the school’s computer for the yearbook). Discussed ways to prepare the business card ads for optimal scanning. Donna will get an original copy of the Norah’s Depot ad to Trish for scanning.
4th Grade Play/Musical scheduled for Tuesday, June 17 with showings at 10am and 6:30pm. Sue can videotape the 6:30pm show, but we need someone to do the 10am showing (PTO has a videocamera; we just need someone to use it). Sue will send home a flyer to ask for a volunteer. Tim has asked Lauren Mann to find out from SMS about ways to improve sound quality for the production.
4th Grade Graduation scheduled for Friday, June 20 at 2pm. Michelle is coordinating donations of refreshments and paper goods via 4th grade parents. Trish volunteered to videotape the event. Sue will get the videocamera to Trish.
Blue Ribbon Award discussed pros and cons of applying for this award (cost is $25 main benefit is bragging rights that GES is a Blue Ribbon School due to the many hours volunteers devote to the school). Sue will submit application online while Tim will do 50-word principal statement.
Identicare program of identification cards (including child’s photo and fingerprint) could be utilized next year for Safety Night.
PTO Officer Elections Four volunteers have stepped forward to head PTO for next year: Katherine Heck (President), Shannon Phillips (VP), Kelly O’Shea (Treasurer), and Dorene Adams (Secretary). Sue will send home election ballot with those names, allowing GES families to vote and also write in names if other candidates are interested. Ginni proposed a transition meeting with old and new officers; Shannon will check with possible incoming officers to select a good date/time.
NEXT MEETING: See you in the fall! Thank you to all those wonderful people who helped make PTO events a great success this year!
