Maxfield Parrish
(1870-1966)

Parrish lived in Cornish, New Hampshire and is known for his children’s book and popular magazine illustrations. In his later years he focused on landscapes using vivid colors and interesting lighting.

Aboriginal Art

We will explore the art of indigenous Australians done from pre-historic times until the present. Aboriginal Art is done in a wide variety of styles and covers many indigenous traditions. We will learn how “Dreamtime”, the mythology of the land that tells the stories from when men, women and nature came to be, influences this art form.

Keith Haring
(1958-1990)

Haring started out as a graffiti artist in the subway system in New York City using chalk on empty black paper. He was inspired by the NY street scene. His bold, childlike, humorous imagery is very accessible to children of all ages.

William H. Johnson
(1901-1970)

William H. Johnson is known for his simplified style and his folk-art depictions of the daily life of urban and rural African Americans. He had little formal training as a painter and little recognition for his talent while he was alive.

Claude Monet
(1840-1926)

Monet is known as one of the leaders of the Impressionist Movement in art. He was fascinated with the play of light and reflection on the landscape. He used short brush strokes and dabs of color to paint the same subjects over and over in order to capture the changing light.

Amedeo Modigliani
(1884-1920)

Modigliani was an Italian painter and sculptor. His mask-like portraits are instantly recognizable with their long faces, thin noses, almond shaped eyes, pursed mouths and elongated necks.

Joan Miro
(1893-1938)

Joan Miro was born in Spain and his art has a definite Spanish influence. Miro’s brilliantly colored shapes and magical symbols fill his abstract paintings with wonder. His canvases are an interesting study in non-objective art.
