Ferry Beach Information for Parents of 5th Grade Students

(Copy of Letter from Mr. Dunning)

June 11, 2008

Dear Incoming 5th Grade Parent,

Grade 5 students and staff will be attending The Ferry Beach Ecology School in Saco, Maine, for a week of outdoor environmental studies September 8-12.

Departure will be by coach bus from Ocean State Job Lot parking lot in Peterborough on Monday, September 8th at 8:00 AM. The return trip on Friday, September 12th will have students arriving in the front of South Meadow School by 3:00 PM. It is very important to have parents pick up their child because of their luggage.

The cost of the week will be $265.00, which includes transportation. All payments must be made before Friday, September 5th. Please make checks payable to SMS. There is no budgeted scholarship funding or financial assistance for The Ferry Beach Ecology School. We believe students should work to help pay for the experience. Please help your child begin to save what can be her/his contribution. Any financial concerns should be addressed with your child’s teacher after the first day of school.

One suitcase or duffel bag should accommodate all the necessary wearing apparel. A complete list of equipment is on the reverse side. Registration and health forms will be sent home on the first day of school.

Classroom teachers will accompany the students. Students who decide not to participate in The Ferry Beach Ecology School will have academic classes provided for them at school. We believe that the week at FBES is a valuable learning experience for both students and staff and highly recommend that all students attend.

Sincerely,

Richard Dunning
Principal
