Technology Tips for Parents

Below please find a potpourri of tips designed to help parents as they support their middle school child at SMS.

Tip #1: Sending or bringing word processed files to school. The following formats are compatible with software at SMS:

  • .doc (Word pre-2007)
  • .cwk (AppleWorks)
  • .txt (text)
  • .rtf (rich text format)

Please note that WordPerfect and Microsoft Works files are not supported at SMS.

Tip #2: Saving a Word 2007 file so that it can be read by users who don't have Word 2007.

When saving a file, change the selection in "Save as type" to "Word 97-2003 Document (.doc)" For more information, go here.

Tip #3: Have you noticed that many teachers now have Parent pages posted on the Classes page of the school website?
