Lindsay Hamrick from the Monadnock Humane Society visited and spoke to the students about animal welfare and the problems of pet overpopulation. Our school will be participating in a reading challenge for the month of March in which each student will get pledges for every hour they read. The money collected will be donated to the Monadnock Humane Society for all the great work they do.

The challenge is over and believe it or not our 62 students earned a total of $875.59 ($900.57 after this picture was taken) for the Monadnock Humane Society. To celebrate their hours of reading, the children were asked to bring in a favorite stuffed animals to join them for an animal cracker and milk party. For anyone keeping track, the students read a total of 22,304 minutes or 371 hours and 44 minutes. What a great way to earn money for such a good cause!

| The people at the Monadnock Humane Society were so pleased with what we had done that they invited us to visit their facility in Swanzey, NH. They gave us a tour and we were able to pet many of the animals looking for homes. The best part was that a cat cage is going to be dedicated to the Temple Elementary School so that everyone can see how committed our kids were to helping the animals. Who knows, maybe it will inspire other schools to do the same thing! We hope so! | |||||||||||||||||
